Amneal Naloxone Nasal Spray is designed to be used without the need for any medical training.* If you suspect an opioid overdose, administer  Naloxone Nasal Spray and get emergency medical help right away.

Naloxone Nasal Spray is an opioid overdose reversal medication and should be part of an opioid safety checklist.

How to use Amneal Naloxone Hydrochloride Nasal Spray*

STEP 1: CHECK if you suspect an overdose

CHECK for a suspected overdose: the person will not
wake up or is very sleepy or not breathing well

  • Yell “Wake up!”
  • Shake the person gently
  • If the person is not awake, go to Step 2

STEP 2 : GIVE 1st dose of Naloxone Hydrochloride Nasal Spray

  • HOLD the Naloxone Hydrochloride Nasal Spray with your thumb on the bottom of the plunger
  • INSERT the tip of the nozzle into either NOSTRIL
  • PRESS the plunger firmly to give the 1st dose

STEP 3: CALL 911

  • CALL 911 immediately after giving the 1st dose

STEP 4: WATCH AND GIVE

WAIT 2 to 3 minutes after the 1st dose to give the medicine time to work

  • if the person wakes up: Go to Step 5
  • if the person does not wake up:
    • CONTINUE TO GIVE doses every 2 to 3 minutes until the person wakes up
    • It is safe to keep giving doses

STEP 5: STAY

  • STAY until the ambulance arrives; even if the person wakes up
  • GIVE another dose if the person becomes very sleepy again
  • You may need to give all the doses in the pack

Important things to remember about Amneal Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray:

  • It is for use in the nose only.
  • Do not remove or test the Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray until ready to use.
  • Each Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray has one dose and cannot be reused.
  • You do not need to prime Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray.

Know the signs of an opioid overdose

Opioids, a drug class used for pain management, can affect the part of the brain that controls breathing. An opioid overdose can cause severe injury or death. It’s important to use Naloxone HCl Nasal Spray immediately if opioid overdose signs or symptoms are present. Be familiar with these three symptoms to recognize an opioid overdose:

shallow breathing

Pale, blue or cold skin

Several factors may put one at higher risk of an opioid overdose, including

  • Having an opioid use disorder
  • Injecting opioids
  • Starting to take opioids after a long period of abstinence (i.e., following detox or incarceration)
  • Using prescription opioids without supervision of a healthcare provider
  • Taking highly prescribed doses of opioids
  • Using opioids with alcohol and/or other medicines that suppress respiratory function
  • Having concurrent mental health conditions or medical conditions, such as HIV or liver or lung disease
